JULIUS HANZEL

1925 - 2007

Julius Hanzel, beloved husband of Nita Hanzel of Taber, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the age of 81 years.
Besides Nita, his loving wife of 46 years, Julius is survived by three daughters, Charlane “Chick” (Dave) Andres of Taber, Judy (Gary) Rogers of Peace River, Patricia (Jim) Takahashi of Lethbridge; grandchildren Russelle (Allan) Voth of Peace River, Lonny (Kim) Rogers of Peace River, Carri-Ann (Randy) Martens of Drayton Valley and by the great grandchildren Chantelle Voth, Brennan Voth, Avery Rogers and Anna-Leigh Martens. He is also survived by his sister Betty (Julius) Seiller of Lethbridge, sister-in-law Eileen Hanzel of Lethbridge and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents John & Elizabeth Hanzel, son Robin Hanzel and by his brother John Hanzel.
Julius was born in Hungary on September 13, 1925. In December 1938, he immigrated with his family to Canada settling in Lethbridge where he met his lifelong friend, Buck Brown. Julius took shoe repair as his trade and learned the business from his uncle Mike Hanzel. In 1950, he started Hanzel Shoe Repair in Taber. In 1960, he married Nita Whitlock. They remained in Taber where he operated his store until he retired in 1993.
Julius was a charter member of the Elks, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Hungarian Old Timers Club. He enjoyed golf and curling. Julius loved to travel, work in the garden and play bingo. He treasured his pet dog Cindy, his special friend and “four legged wonder”.
Julius could at times be a little rough around the edges but inside he had a heart of gold. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, May 24, 2007 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 1:30 P.M. with Reverend Dr. Austin Fennell officiating.  Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
