MARY MEIER-HORTON

1908 - 2004

Mrs. Mary Meier-Horton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at the age of 96 years.
She was born in Trampling Lake, Saskatchewan to Peter and Helen Schneider. When Mary was 9 years old her mother died from the pandemic flu of 1917. Mary  felt this loss deeply and thoughts of her mother were with her throughout her life.  She married Anton Meier and they farmed in Prelate, Saskatchewan until 1949.  They moved to southern Alberta and farmed in Hays until retiring to Taber in 1968.
Mary was predeceased by Anton and by her second husband Alvin Horton and her oldest daughter Helen Meier.  
She is survived by her children Carol (Ron) Schmidt, Vince (Jan) Meier, Tony (Patti) Meier, Jack (Vivian) Meier, Eva (Dave) Kress; 16grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; one sister Elizabeth (Stan) Froehlich; brothers and sisters-in-law Jack (Pauline) Meier, Phyllis Schneider, Lena Sautner, Ben (Dorothy) Meier, Clem Eckert and Veronica Meier and also by numerous nieces and nephews.  
She will be remembered for her immaculate house-keeping, her beautiful crocheted doilies, tablecloths and numerous items, her skills as a seamstress, her love for company and a good game of Canasta and also her wonderful cooking and baking skills. Mary was an active and long time member of the C.W.L  
Relatives and friends are invited for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel (5006-48 Ave.) Taber on Friday, June 11, 2004 at 7:00 P.M.  
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church (5009-48 Ave.) Taber on Saturday, June 12 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Father Mariusz Sztuk SDS celebrant.  Interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden.
