RICK JENSEN

1949 - 2004

Richard (Rick) Lynn Jensen, beloved husband of Bev Jensen of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Care Centre, following a lengthy illness, on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the age of 54 years.
Richard was born in Taber on September 28, 1949 to Harry and Helen Jensen.  He lived on the family farm south of Taber until he graduated from high school in 1967. After graduation he attended Rick's College and when he turned 19 he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England.  When he returned home two years later he farmed with his dad and brothers, as well as attending Lethbridge Community College. Richard met his wife Bev in 1973 and they were married May 4, 1974.  Their first child Chad was born in 1976.  In 1978 Richard took a job with Hydril Canadian in Edmonton.  He worked with this company for 5 years traveling as far north as Alaska, as far south as Texas, as well to the off shore rigs down east.  In 1980 Amy was born followed by Kathleen in 1982.  In 1984 Richard and Bev moved back to Taber to farm, as well as work in the oil patch.  Shawn was born in 1985.  It was a few years later that his brother Scott got him a job working for Morrison Petroleum. The company was later sold to North Star Energy and eventually to Devon.  At the time of his passing he was still considered an employee of Devon.  Richard loved to work in his yard, as well as attending every air show whenever possible. He became ill in May 2000 and has spent the last four years fighting a courageous battle with rheumatoid arthritis and pulmonary fibrosis.  He had a very special Doctor John Geers of Coaldale who did everything possible to help him fight his illness.  He also had a wonderful staff at St. Michael's that not only took wonderful care of him but became his special friends.
Besides his loving wife Bev, he will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his children Chad (Dawn) Jensen of Coaldale, Amy (Dan) Shaw of Grande Prairie, Kathleen (Dustin) Prince of Lethbridge and Shawn Jensen of Lethbridge; his mother Helen Jensen of Taber, father and mother-in-law Terence and Shirley Higgins of Vauxhall; brothers Cam H. (Sharon) Jensen of Taber and Scott (Janice) Jensen of Lethbridge; Bev's sisters Bonny (Mel) Wiebe of Lethbridge and Judy (Stuart) Davison of Lethbridge; aunts and uncles Gordon and Ruth Jensen of Barnwell, Glen and Fern Jensen of Lethbridge, Maxine Jensen of Lethbridge, Stella Hall and Jolane Bullock of Taber, Alan and Eleanor Hyde of Salt Lake City, Utah, Audrey Aull of Penticton, B.C., Joyce and Pete Odland of Coaldale, Joe and Phyllis Higgins of Brooks, Doris and Lloyd Higgins of Taber, as well as many nieces and nephews and very special friends.
He was predeceased by his father in 1992, his nephew Terence Webster Higgins in 1993 and sister-in-law Andrea Higgins in 1994.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006-48 Ave., Taber on Monday, August 2 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. and also in the Relief Society Room of the Church prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M.
