JESSIE LANE

1907 - 2004

Mrs. Jessie Lane of Bow Island, beloved wife of the late Mr. Henry Lane, passed away peacefully at the Bow Island Health Care Center on Friday, January 2, 2004 at the age of 96 years.
Jessie was born at Nottingham, England on December 2, 1907.  At the age of 15 years she accompanied her mother to Canada and settled in the Foremost Community.  In 1928 she married Henry Lane, who became her loving lifetime partner for nearly 68 years.  They lived in Foremost, Peace River and Burdett Communities before retiring to Bow Island in 1994.  God blessed this union with 7 children, 29 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.  Jessie was a very loving and caring person.  She devoted her life to her husband and family.  Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren were her special joy. She enjoyed music and especially playing the violin. Homemaking, cooking and knitting were her specialties. The family members all enjoy her beautifully knit or crocheted afghans and hand knit baby ensembles. Her joyous, peaceful spirit was contagious. Seldom did she grumble or complain. She appreciated everything people did for her.  
She was predeceased by her father Thomas Cottingham and her mother Alice Cooke, her step-father John Cooke, a brother Leonard Cottingham and a sister Edna Hopkins.  Her husband Henry Lane passed away in 1997.  She was also predeceased by a daughter Thelma Froese, a son Wesley Lane, grandsons Dennis Lane, Lester Clements and Wesley Johnson.  
Jessie is survived by two sons Gordon (Lorraine) Lane of Bow Island and Ronald (Norma) Lane of Burdett; three daughters Dorothy (Dave) Clements of Calgary, Margaret (Allan) Smith of Bow Island and Marilyn (Duane) Thompson of Fort Collins, Colorado. She will be greatly missed by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Also surviving is one sister  Ruth (Noelin) Newton of Lethbridge and three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  We know she is rejoicing with her family who have gone before her. We will miss her, but our many treasured memories of her will remain forever.  
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel (5006-48 Ave.) Taber on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.   
The Funeral Service will be held at the Christian Community Church, Burdett, Alberta on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 2:00 P.M.   Interment to follow in the Burdett Cemetery.
