John Issac Berg, beloved husband of Rose Berg of Coaldale, passed away at the St. Michael's Health Centre on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the age of 87 years.
John was born in Fuerstenwerder, Tauria, Russia on November 13, 1918 to Issac and Maria Berg. His family immigrated to Canada in 1925. They moved to the Coaldale area where John met his sweetheart Rose and they were married on November 17, 1945. They farmed for a year and then moved into Coaldale where he worked as a mechanic. He worked for Pedersen's Garage, International Harvester, the Town of Coaldale and Neufeldt Industries. He served with the Coaldale Volunteer Fire Department for thirty five years. John and Rose raised two daughters. At the age of sixty three, John rededicated his life to the Lord and he and Rose attended the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church together for the next twenty four years. He enjoyed coffeeing with his friends who named themselves "The Senate", where they could discuss and solve the worlds problems. John loved his wife, his family and enjoyed working with Rose in their garden.
Besides Rose, his faithful wife of sixty years, John is survived by their daughters Beverly (Ken) Carroll of Lethbridge and Sharon (Dennis) Barbour of Coaldale; his grandchildren Trevor (Carol) Carroll, Scott (Becky) Barbour, Treena (Callum) Russell, Colin Carroll and Keith Carroll; six great grandchildren, Emilee and Eric Barbour, Mitchell and Madison Russell and Levi and Ethan Carroll. He is also survived by his sister Anna Janzen of Calgary, his brother James (Dorothy) Berg of Calgary, his sister Tina Janzen of Pincher Creek and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Mary and her husband John Voth and by his brothers-in-law Aron Janzen and Nick Janzen.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church, 2114 - 18 Street, Coaldale on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 between 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church, 2114 - 18 Street, Coaldale on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Lorne Willms and Reverend Rudy Heidebrecht officiating. Interment to follow at the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery.
