MAE MCCORD

1915 - 2008

Mae Chesney McCord (nee Stewart), beloved wife of the late Roy S. “Bud” McCord, passed away in Taber on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the age of 92 years.
She is survived by her sister and best friend, Bessie Jean (McCarley) Johnson; her nieces and nephews (and their families), Echo McCarley of Lethbridge, Dixie McCarley of Coaldale, Marilyn Nelson of Milo, Sheila Stokes of Vulcan, Dawna Williams of Cochrane, Leonard McCord of Calgary, Bob McCord of Calgary, Linda Vinassi of Edmonton, Randy Mitchell of Edmonton and her adopted family members, Tina & Gerald Oevering and Elsie Friesen of Vauxhall.
Mae was predeceased by her husband Bud in 1990, parents Alexander Armstrong & Ella Mae Stewart and her brother John (Jack) Clarkson Stewart in 1949.
Mae was born in Lethbridge on October 3, 1915. She married Bud in 1939 and they farmed for a few years before moving to the Town of Vauxhall. During her many years of residence in Vauxhall, Mae worked as a hairdresser, clerk at the Post Office, for the Bank of Nova Scotia and finally the Town of Vauxhall for eleven years.
She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was Grand Matron for two terms. Mae was also an active member of the Parkview United Church (UCW), Vauxhall Willing Workers Club and an honourary member of the Vauxhall Curling Club. Over the years, she skipped many teams to curling bonspiel victories and hence earned her name “Mickey McCord”.
Mae, commonly known in Vauxhall as “Aunt Mae”, loved to cook and bake and many good times were had around her table.
During her latter years, Mae took up golf and won various awards at the Senior Summer Games. Nothing made her happier than to play a round of golf with her sister Bessie or good friends Doug & Mary Stevenson or Chuck & June Tajiri. She was also known to play a mean round of bridge and was a member of the Vauxhall Bridge Club for many, many years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Alana Johnson of the Parkview United Church in Vauxhall officiating.  Burial to follow at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
