REX NELSON

1923 - 2008

Lloyd Rex Nelson of Hays, beloved husband of Maxine Nelson, passed away with her by his side in Taber on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the age of 85 years.
Besides his loving wife Maxine, Rex is survived by his children Roy (Linda) Stevens of Taber, Stan (Edith) Stevens, Carol Stevens and Tom (Rebecca) Stevens all of Hays; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren who were the love of his life. He is also survived by two brothers, Hal (Ellen) Nelson of High River, Doyal (Mary) Nelson of Edmonton and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Irvine & Bessie Nelson and by two sisters and their husbands, Theo (Dale) Barrows and Jean (Reese) Williams.
Rex was born February 16, 1923 at the old Van Harlem Hospital in Lethbridge, the third of five children of Irvine & Bessie Nelson. He received his schooling in Wrentham where he enjoyed playing basketball. Rex joined the RCAF on December 12, 1942 and was later stationed in England. After the war, he began what was his first love, farming. On May 19, 1973, Rex married Dorothy Maxine Stevens (nee Ockey) and became the father to her four children. Together they continued to farm at Hays where he resided until the time of his passing.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family in the Relief Society room at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday, October 17, 2008 between 12:00 P.M. and 12:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 322 - 2 Street North, Vauxhall on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Bishop Blaine Burbank conducting. Burial to follow at the Hays Cemetery.
