MARIE-LUIS OSTROP

1944 - 2006

Marie-Luis Anna Ostrop passed away peacefully on July 31, 2006 at age 61 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Wilhelm Ostrop, her mother Margarete Boenemann-Nordalm, her children and children-in-law Nikola and Volker Hanhoff, Alexander Ostrop and Alison Goodwin, her grandson David Hanhoff and extended family and friends.
Marie-Luis was born on New Years Eve 1944 in Abenheim, Germany. She grew up on a farm in Erkelenz as an only child of Margarete and Josef Boenemann-Nordalm. She married Wilhelm Ostrop in 1968, and they raised two children, Nikola and Alexander. In 1978, she moved with her family from Germany to establish a farm south of Grassy Lake. Especially during the early years, she worked hard with Wilhelm to make a go of it at their new home. Marie-Luis much enjoyed this and always looked back on their accomplishments with pleasure. With Southern Alberta being their primary home, Marie-Luis with Wilhelm still maintained roots in Germany and enjoyed spending time during the winters with her friends and family in Germany, as much as she enjoyed spending the spring, summer and fall on the farm in Alberta.
A true adventurous spirit lived in Marie-Luis and she enjoyed living life to the fullest. She loved traveling, having an immense interest in and respect for other cultures throughout the world, particularly those in South and Central America. Marie-Luis also very much enjoyed cooking, reading, making photo-albums, playing with her grandson and socializing with family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
Right until her death, Marie-Luis considered herself blessed to be able to have lived the life she did and to know that her spirit lives on in her family and in her friends.
Many thanks to the staff at the Taber and Lethbridge Regional Hospitals as well as the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, who cared so well for Marie-Luis.
Relatives and friends are invited to a prayer service at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. A private funeral service will be held at Southland Funeral Chapel.
Flowers are graciously declined but if desired, donations can be made in memory of Marie-Luis to Cancer Research at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, c/o The Alberta Cancer Foundation, 1331 – 21 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta  T2N 4N2.
