DON PORTER

1925 - 2006

Donald Lloyd Porter passed away peacefully at the Taber Hospital on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at the age of 81 years.
Don is survived by his children Craig (Nancy) Porter of Las Vegas, Logan (Jane) Porter of Barnwell, Shanon (Ross) Anderson of Taber, Afton (Dale) George of Las Vegas, Charmaine (Barry) Humphrey of Red Cliff, Ashlee Atkins of Maricopa, Arizona and by their mother Joyce of Lethbridge. He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Lois Porter of Lethbridge and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Fred & Mabel Porter, his siblings Ruth and her husband Carl Isom, Bill Porter, Lois and her husband Roy Conrad and grandson Donald Joseph Porter.
Don was born on March 3, 1925 in Taber to Fred Smith Porter and Mabel Clair Utterback. He received his schooling in Taber and joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving in World War II from 1942 - 1945. He married Joyce Harris and raised their family on the farm east of Taber. Don had a sod farm in Bow Island. He farmed at Fort St. John, British Columbia and operated a sawmill on Vancouver Island where he has resided for the past thirty years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, July 29, 2006 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 54th Street Chapel, 5314 - 54 Street, Taber on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Michael Saunders conducting. Interment to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
