JACK BROWNING

1921 - 2004

Mr. John "Jack" Ernest Browning, beloved husband of Mrs. Hannah Browning of Taber, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2004 at the age of 82 years.
Jack was born on October 10, 1921 in Bow Island to Arthur and Daisey Browning. They moved to Taber where Jack took his schooling, worked, played and raised his family. Jack left Taber and joined the Air Force during the war years. When he was discharged from the service, he apprenticed as a baker in Calgary where he met Hannah Hughes. They were married on February 22, 1947 and a year later they moved to Taber and took over the Taber Bakery, which was owned by the Browning family.  Jack and Hannah owned the bakery for 37 years. They made the best doughnuts, pastries and wedding cakes in the country. Family was very important to Dad, as was his yard, where we had many a great family get togethers.  Jack enjoyed bird hunting with his family and fishing in the foothills and curling with his buddies. He was a member of the Legion, Elks Club and an Honorary Fireman where he was an active member for over 20 years. Dad loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He also had a great love for his dogs Mickey and Sandy.
Besides his loving wife Hannah, Jack is survived by his children and their families Terry (Joan) of High River and their children Chris (Kacey), Danielle, Catherine, Gina, Lisa and David and his great granddaughter Kloe; Bill (Monica) of Taber and their sons John and Bryan; Bev (Tom) Nelson of Nanton and their children Kim, Ian and Carl of Edmonton. Jack is also survived by his brother Tom (Jean) Browning of Virden, Manitoba and a sister Dolly Bullock of Taber.
Dad was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Daisey Browning and sisters Sylvia Tufts and Edna Young.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel (5006-48 Ave.) Taber on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church (4929-50 Ave.) Taber on Wednesday, January 21 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Curtis Tufts officiating. Interment will follow in the Taber Memorial Garden.
