JEAN WOOLFORD

1914 - 2008

Jean Isabel (McKee) Woolford was born in Consort, AB on April 3, 1914 and passed away April 9, 2008 at the age of 94.
She is survived by Wendy (Butch) Egeland of Vauxhall and Charlie (Hazel) Woolford of Cardston; granddaughters: Lori (Rob) Doerksen of Hays, Tami (Cody) Plumb of Enchant, Lisa Egeland of Lethbridge, Kimberly Jean Egeland of Vauxhall, Tonya Woolford of Lethbridge; grandsons: Jamie and Christopher Woolford of Cardston; great-grandchildren: Brandi, Lane & Dakota Doerksen, Tannis & Kale Woolford, Chase & Torynn Jean Plumb (our very new arrival). No matter what Grandma kept track of what all the grand & great grandchildren were doing and really enjoyed seeing the newest baby Torynn Jean last week.  We had just celebrated her 94th birthday where Chase and Dakota entertained her once again.  We are all very appreciative of the care Mom received at the Piyami Lodge in Picture Butte and at Edith Cavell in Lethbridge.  Mom was the last surviving member of her family of  two sisters and three brothers.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
She graduated as a registered nurse in 1939 in Edmonton and worked in various places in Alberta until coming to Cardston to work where she met and married Henry Woolford and had two children.  She worked at the Blood Indian Hospital for many years and moved to Lethbridge in 1974 where she worked at the former Edith Cavell facility for a time and then took in foster children, lots of babies, and babysat for a few families.  When she retired she enjoyed bowling and became a champion scrabble player.  Her and her sister from Edmonton won scrabble medals at a number of provincial senior games.  She lived in her own home until she was 89 and loved growing flowers, especially roses.
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
Still loved, still missed, still very dear.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Christensen Salmon Funeral Chapel, 327-10 Street South, Lethbridge on Friday, April 11, 2008 between 7:00 and 8:00 P.M. A family burial will take place at the Enchant Cemetery on Saturday, April 12, 2008.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Jean’s name may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, #302, 223-12 Ave., S.W. Calgary T2R 0G9.
