MARY VIK

1928 - 2010

Mary Vik (nee Fekete), beloved wife of the late Joseph Vik, passed away in Taber on Monday, January 11, 2010 at the age of 81 years.
Mary is survived by her three sons Bob (Carma) of Millet, Rick (Deb) of Lethbridge and Len (Kathleen) of Calgary; granddaughter Candice (Roy) Hide and great granddaughter Gabrielle Hide of Red Deer; sister Betty (Elmer) Kun of Red Deer; brother Leslie (Ethel) Fekete Jr. of Taber as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Joseph; mother Mary and father Leslie Sr.
Mary was born in Taber on November 27, 1928 to Leslie and Mary Fekete Sr. Mary grew up on her parent’s farm south of Taber and attended school in Taber. On February 5, 1948 she married Joseph Vik of Barnwell. Three sons soon followed and then a job change moved the family to Lethbridge. In 1965 Mary and family moved back to Taber to farm. Nine years later Mary and Joe sold the farm and moved to Edmonton. In 1985 retirement brought them back to Taber.
Mary was a loving and caring mother who was especially proud of raising her three sons. In 2008 to her delight her great granddaughter Gabrielle was born. Mary always looked forward to spending time with family and friends. Sunday dinners of home made chicken soup, cabbage rolls, fried chicken and a cup of tea with a little dessert became a tradition with Mary, passed down from her Hungarian heritage. Anyone dropping in for a visit was well taken care of with a meal. She loved to prepare desserts and any meal ended with a choice of three or four. Mary also enjoyed gardening and made sure surplus amounts ended up being distributed to family, friends and neighbors. She will be forever remembered in our hearts.
A private family service will be held.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Mary’s name may be made directly to the Taber & District Health Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9.
The family would like to thank Jim and Janice Crawford & family for their kind friendship, support and care as well as Carol Kuntz who would visit her often.
