BARB ERICKSON

1938 - 2011

Barbara Mary Erickson (nee Haysom), beloved wife of Larry Erickson, passed away to be with the Lord in Taber on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the age of 73 years.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Harry Unger of the Evangelical Free Church in Taber officiating.
Barb was born to English descent in Regina, Saskatchewan on January 3, 1938 to Elsie (nee Hodgeson) & Arthur Haysom. She grew up in Regina with her brothers Bernard and Harry. On February 26, 2010, Harry passed away in Regina at nearly 70 years old. Bern lives in a Senior’s home in Saskatoon and is 80 years old. Barb graduated from high school in Regina in 1956. She then attended the University of Alberta for one year studying physical training. This is where she joined the RCAF in November of 1957. She began her “boot camp” training near Montreal, starting early in January of 1958. This is where she met her future husband Larry Erickson, who was in his sixth year in the RCAF. They courted evenings and weekends for one month, then Larry was transferred to the RCAF base, Summerside, Prince Edward Island. They planned to marry, so through their Air Force Padres, Barb was able to get a release from the RCAF by February 28, 1958. She travelled down to Summerside and they were married on March 8, 1958 in the Air Force Protestant Chapel.  The rest is a very long interesting story. They have three children Debra born January 1960, Lloyd born April 1962 and Daryl born November 1977. As well they have six grand children and five great grandchildren. Barbara received Christ as her personal Savior in 1985, approximately two and a half years after her husband Larry. They both attended the Evangelical Free Church of Quesnel, British Columbia, Fort St. John, British Columbia, Picture Butte and most recently Taber, beginning in 2003.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Barb’s name may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Box 2211, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4K7 or to a charity of one’s personal choosing.
