Kelly Olson

1957 - 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Kelly Olson, announce his unexpected passing in Calgary on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the age of 68 years.

The Funeral Service will be held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. Kelly’s family have asked that you wear your favourite sports jersey (Roughriders or Canadiens if you have it) or your summer casual.

Kelly is lovingly remembered by his wife Carol and their four children Anna, David (Mia) (their son Issac), Cheryl and James (Faith) (their sons Jesse-James and Solomon). He is also survived by his siblings Angie Smith, Rose St. Cyr, Ricard Jacobson and Cory Caplette along with many extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Margret and Eggert Olson, his biological parents Helga Jacobson and Lawrence Saddler, nephew Michael Briere, niece Tasha Benyk and his brothers Cecil Jacobson and Chad Caplette.

Kelly was a man full of love, life and kindness. He gave his time generously to his community coaching softball and hockey, working with the Taber Air Cadets for many years and supporting the Lethbridge Army Cadets and their band. He also spent many years refereeing high school football, where his fairness and enthusiasm earned the respect of players and coaches alike.

Sports were a lifelong passion for Kelly. During the winter months you would find Kelly in the curling rink. His passion for curling was passed down to his children with him and his sons playing together for many years. He especially loved cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Montreal Canadiens, and his excitement for the game was contagious to those around him.

Kelly never turned away from an opportunity to help, whether it was giving kids a safe place to gather at his home, mowing a neighbor’s lawn, or lending a hand wherever it was needed. His life was a true example of love in action. He showed those around him what it meant to care, to share and to live with a giving heart.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
