Lylla Laqua

1927 - 2025

Lylla Marie Laqua, beloved wife of the late Chuck Laqua, passed away in Taber on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at the age of 98 years.

Lylla is survived by her children Jerry (Ginger) Laqua of Foremost, Evelyn Laqua of Lethbridge, Bonnie (Dave) Kennedy of Raymond, Dean (Robyn) Laqua of Foremost, Janice Laqua of Foremost and Adrienne Laqua of Raymond; nineteen grandchildren; thirty four great grandchildren; sister-in-law Lillian Laqua and close friend Chuck Slater.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles “Chuck” Laqua; sons Don Laqua and Lyle Laqua; granddaughter Cinnamon Laqua; sons-in-law Randall Yancie and Dave Derksen; sister Joan (Peter) Kwashnecha; brother Neil (Violet) Bailey; sister-in-law Joyce (Victor) O’Connell; brothers-in-law Bill (Louise) Laqua and Bob Laqua.

Lylla was born in Tofield on April 18, 1927. After earning her education degree, she began teaching in Hoping, Alberta, where she met her future husband, Charles “Chuck” Laqua. They resided on the family farm south of Foremost, raising their family there until Chuck’s retirement, after which they relocated to Foremost.

On the family farm, Lylla always grew a large garden and grew beautiful flowers throughout the yard. With her husband Chuck, they actively supported their children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. After their children had grown, they loved sightseeing by car throughout the United States and also made many trips with friends and family to various places. Alongside Chuck, they made and donated nine stained glass windows that are installed in the Foremost United Church.

After Chuck’s passing, Lylla moved to the Seasons Retirement Community at Lethbridge Gardens, where she lived until her death. Lylla was educated as a teacher and maintained a passion for learning throughout her life. Through her friendship with Chuck Slater, she developed skills as an artist, with her artwork displayed in the homes of her children and grandchildren. Her musical abilities also evolved through her friendship with Chuck, who introduced her to playing piano by ear and from the heart. She played piano at various social events at the Seasons and continued this practice until her death.

Lylla valued keeping up with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities and communicated regularly with them. Right up to her last Christmas, she made sure to make enough pie crusts for all her children and grandchildren to enjoy. She was indeed the foundation of our family, and we know how blessed we were.

Lylla had a heart of gold and made friends wherever she went, she will be sorely missed by them.
