He was predeceased by his wife Anne, parents James and Julia Astalos, brother Joe Megyes and sister Margaret (David) Duggan; brother-in-law Alex Forsyth.
Alex was born on August 19, 1939, in Lethbridge three months premature. He grew up on the farm and at the age of fourteen he began farming with his brother Joe and father. Alex met his wife Anne while cruising the streets of Taber and they were married in May of 1962. In 1965 they bought eighty acres from his father, southeast of Taber where they built the family farm and resided until 2010. Alex took great pride and care in farming and maintaining his equipment. In the early years he worked at the sugar factory in the winter, in the sugar warehouse loading 100lb sugar bags into railcars manually. His hands told the story of strength and a life building, growing and giving. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He always made time for the grandkids, from riding on the farm hand to making a snow hill every winter for them to sled down. Alex loved “Dad” jokes and had a nickname for everybody. He was known for his kindness and quiet strength. Alex believed in hard work, honesty and helping his neighbour. On the farm Alex grew corn, peas and beans for Empress foods. He loved growing sugar beets and won high tonnage awards in the early 2000's. He even dug beets for the sugar factory after research plots were complete.
In 2010 Alex and Anne moved to town and he would often work in the yard and the garage at home and at the farm. He always enjoyed daily coffee with the gang at A&W.
After ten years they moved into Linden View. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
