Sheldon Rogers

1932 - 2025

Sheldon Dean Rogers, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025 in Taber, and has been reunited with his beloved wife of seventy years, Sylvia Marie Rogers.

Sheldon is survived by his five children Sheila (Darren) Wesley of Calgary, Greg (Mary) Rogers of Vauxhall, Carolee (Rick) Wentz of Taber, Barry (Sonya) Rogers of Edmonton and Lana (Rob) Kanomata of Taber as well as fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Sheldon was born March 7, 1932, in Nova Scotia to Katherine and Waldo “Chubb” Hazel. He was raised in and around Scotch Village and spent much of his time in the woods behind their home learning to hunt or swimming in the river and fishing for eels. In the summer and fall he would help with the apple harvest in Annapolis Valley, and winters were spent playing hockey or sledding down the big hill in the village.

Sheldon loved to play his guitar and later on, he would travel around to small venues and play some good old country tunes with his band. When he was seventeen, he found his way out west to Wrentham, where he worked on a few farms. Not long after, he met his brown eyed beauty Sylvia who he snapped up and never let go of all his life.

Sheldon never had much to say but was always a calm, steady presence. He worked hard to provide for his family including building their home in Barnwell from the ground up. Sheldon loved carpentry and working with his hands.

Sheldon and Sylvia kept a huge garden and would work hard to can and preserve everything they could. You could always depend on getting a large box of onions and fresh garden produce from him when they would come in to town.

We all have fond memories of holidays spent around the big dining room table with a huge feast and the grandkids racing around the house. Sheldon loved having all of his family around him. He was a kind and gentle soul and was loved by so many people. He will be deeply missed but we know that he is smiling down on us, hand in hand with Sylvia for eternity.

A private funeral service will be held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber. Burial to follow at the Barnwell Cemetery.
