Marie Grigor
1936 - 2025
Elise Marie Grigor (née Shields), lovingly known as Marie, passed away peacefully in Cardston on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at the age of 89 years.
Born in Lethbridge on June 23, 1936, Marie was the oldest daughter of Leonard and Elise Shields and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Her legacy of love, service and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Marie is lovingly remembered by her sons Todd Grigor of Lake Oconee, Georgia, Roger (Tamara) Grigor of Okotoks, Derek (Debra) Grigor of Calgary and Jason (Adriana) Grigor of Dallas, Texas. She leaves behind seventeen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.
Marie graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Education, specializing in Home Economics. She dedicated thirty two years of her life to teaching food studies and beauty culture in high schools, where she was deeply loved by her students and colleagues alike. Her passion for education and her nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on countless young lives. Marie married Orville Crosbie Grigor on April 16, 1960, in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They celebrated sixty three years of marriage before Orville’s passing in April 2023. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family and service.
A woman of many talents, Marie found joy in cooking, baking, canning, gardening and sewing - gifts she generously shared with family, friends and neighbors. Her kind and compassionate heart was evident in every meal she prepared and every life she touched. Marie was also an accomplished pianist and loved to sing, especially with Orville. Above all, Marie’s greatest joys came from her four sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Marie was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After retirement, Marie and Orville served three full-time missions. The first mission to Hanoi, Vietnam and two missions to South Africa. They loved the Vietnamese and South African people deeply and enjoyed the many friendships made over the years with each mission. In those assignments, they served as English Instructors and Directors for The LDS Church Seminaries and Institutes, sharing their vocational experience, faith and love with people across the globe. Marie and Orville were inseparable in life and are now reunited for eternity. It is comforting to family and friends that she recently joined her sweetheart, parents and loved ones.
“To her sons, daughters-in-law and grandkids she was our treasured hero - the heart and soul of the home who we were lucky enough to call “Mom” and “Grandma”. She carried us through every storm with strength, grace and love that never waned. She gave everything to her family to ensure we grew knowing kindness, courage and faith, expecting nothing in return. Although her physical presence will be missed, her spirit and memory live in every lesson she shared, every bedtime story she read, every hug she gave and every moment she sacrificed. We will carry her example of unconditional love forever in our hearts. Her strength will continually be our compass, and her memory will always be our light. God be with you, Mom and Grandma, ‘til we meet again!”
