She is also survived by her sisters Virginia (Al) Zawada of Airdrie, Linda Cristofoli of Castlegar, British Columbia and Shirley (David) Jensen of Lethbridge, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Lewis and Margaret (née Lugos) Fraser of Raymond; sister Lavonne Shepherd of Raymond; brother Robert (Donna) Fraser of Raymond; brother-in-law Brian Cristofoli.
Margaret was born in the original home on the family farm in Raymond and delivered into this world by a midwife on June 16, 1940. The third daughter and the third of six children.
Raymond was the home of the first eighteen years of her life and she received her schooling there. After graduating from high school she moved to Edmonton and received training as a Lab and X-Ray Technician. Margaret worked in the Cold Lake hospital until she went on a mission to Japan for two years for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following her mission, she worked at the Taber Hospital until her marriage to Garold on September 1, 1965.
Mom enjoyed working with her best friend on the farm. Garold and Margaret joined hands and hearts and went to work farming. She planted sugar beets and dry beans, combined grain, baled hay and moved wheel moves. You name it, she could do it and she enjoyed it too.
Margaret loved to garden and preserve produce from the garden, our pantry and deep freezers were always full to the brim. Cooking and baking gave her great pleasure and satisfaction. We loved coming home from school from time to time to freshly baked bread or cookies which never lasted long. Margaret enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cross stitching, keeping the books for the farm and the house, and was an avid reader of scripture, religious works and fiction. She especially enjoyed her number and word fill books and listening to podcasts. Margaret’s flower gardens were always beautiful and her roses and African violets were stunning. She really had a green thumb which she passed along to many of her children and grandchildren. Margaret loved work and seemed to have endless ambition and energy.
Mom was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in the church including the scouting program where she completed several Wood Badge certifications. She also attended the majority of her children’s sporting events, worked at the Taber Food Bank and then later with Communities in Bloom. Some of her favourite projects were, with friends, planting and nurturing the gardens in the northeast corner of the Centennial Park and developing the Christmas display at the Town of Taber police station.
