Gerry Campbell

1935 - 2026

Geraldine Louise Campbell, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away in Taber on Monday, April 13, 2026 at the age of 90 years.

Gerry will be sadly missed by her four children: Sandra (Ivan) Campbell-Lang of Lethbridge, Sharon (Ivan) Roberts of Taber, David (Tanya) Campbell of Ottawa and Sheila Bell of Lethbridge, as well as her fifteen grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents Eric and Olive Thornton, younger sister Barbara and younger brother James. Gerry was born in Hanna on November 10, 1935, the oldest of three children born to Eric and Olive Thornton. She spent the first ten years of her life in Hanna with her collie dog, Rover, and younger sister Barbara. Her family moved to Edmonton where she enjoyed summer trips to visit grandparents on the west coast, attending CGIT camp with her church, and later welcoming her brother Jim, who was fifteen years younger.

She attended Victoria Composite High School in Edmonton where she enjoyed being part of the bowling team and spending time with her good friends.

Gerry settled in Taber, raised her four children there, and became an active community member. She worked at the Bank of Montreal for over twenty years and volunteered in several capacities, including at her grandchildren’s school libraries, serving snacks at Extendicare, and selling daffodils for the Canadian Cancer Society. Gerry was a member of the ladies bowling league into her retirement. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, always willing to serve and finding herself in several secretarial roles because that was definitely an area she shined in.

Gerry loved being a part of, and watching the goings-on of her growing family, and made sure to visit even when they lived across the country or across the pond.

Gerry’s quiet nature and positive attitude, never speaking ill of anyone made her easy to love and be around and served her well through the challenges of raising four children on her own. She was a hard worker who quietly managed a full-time job, keeping a huge garden, mowing the lawn, and maintaining the house without ever complaining. Gerry loved to collect owls, and had a collection of over 200 at one point, which the grandkids loved to hunt for and count when they visited. She also had a fierce love of Scrabble, beating most opponents right up until the time of her passing.

She will be missed by many including neighbors, friends and tablemates at the Clearview Lodge, community members but mostly by her family which has definitely grown since she first moved to Taber.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday, April 20, 2026 between 10:15 A.M. and 10:45 A.M.
