ARTHUR AVERY

1905 - 1998

Arthur H. Avery, beloved husband of Alice Avery, passed away peacefully in Taber on Tuesday, March 31, 1998 at the age of 92 years.
Besides his loving wife Alice, he is survived by his son Charles of Taber; his daughter Betty (Ted Pike) of Calgary; his sisters Margaret and Alice; grandchildren Jason and Ashley, Crystal, Nathan and Jonathan and nephew Dan King and also by three great granddaughters.
He was predeceased by his second son Ronald in 1986.
Arthur was born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England on August 7, 1905. He came to Canada in 1909 with his mother and sister to join his father. Their family lived in Bow Island and Nelson with Arthur moving to Taber in 1926, following which he purchased the Taber Times in 1927, publishing the paper for forty years. Arthur served the Town of Taber as Mayor for three terms of office from 1969 to 1977. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Shriners. He also served on the vestry of St. Theodore’s Anglican Church for many years. Throughout his life, Arthur showed an interest in his community, working to improve the town.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Theodore’s Anglican Church, Taber on Saturday, April 4, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Dale Lang officiating. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
