WILBUR STICKEL

1928 - 2000

Wilbur Stickel, of Vauxhall, passed away with his children at his side on Tuesday, November 7, 2000 in Taber, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Fred and Lydia Stickel in Seven Persons, Alberta on October 25, 1928, Wilbur grew up in the Medicine Hat area, and at various stages in his life lived in Milk River, Shaughnessy, Lethbridge, and Vauxhall, which he has always considered "home".
Wilbur was predeceased by his parents, his younger brother Bill,
as well as his wife Vi, who passed away in 1978.
He is survived by his three children, Sandra (Brian) Hagen, and their children Stacy (Teresa) Hagen, and Sharla (Rick) Zalesak; Wayne (Jan) Stickel, and their children Ryan Stickel, Cody Feldbusch, and Tami (Mike) Barnes and their son Zachary; Loren (Marci) Stickel, and their children Joey and Michael. Wilbur also cherished his four great-grandchildren: Jordan and Justin Zalesak, and Chelsea and Joshua Hagen. Wilbur is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Clarence (Anna) Stickel of Lethbridge, Cliff (Marion) Stickel of Milk River, Lorene Sharp of Lethbridge, Irene (Romie) Lodermeier of Creston, BC, Vi (Lloyd) King of Cranbrook, British Columbia, and Viona (Dugald) MacMillan of Port Alice, British Columbia, and numerous nieces and nephews. A very special person in Wilbur's life for the past few years has been Bertha Geremia, whom he affectionately referred to as his "very best friend and traveling buddy".
Wilbur will be remembered fondly as someone with a great sense of humor who enjoyed life to the fullest, through such activities as bowling, curling, golfing, crib games, fishing, and being an avid TV sports enthusiast. Many lasting friendships were the result of these hobbies. He was also an active member in the Vauxhall Royal Canadian Legion for many years, and will be sadly missed by all of his friends there.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Friday, November 10, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Yvonne Mills of Parkview United Church officiating. Burial followed at the Vauxhall Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Wilbur's memory may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society 317 - 10 Street South Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2M7.
