Don Unrau

1945 - 2018

Donald James Unrau, beloved husband of Shelly Unrau, passed away at his home in Taber on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the age of 72 years.

A private funeral service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 3, 2018.

Besides Shelly, his loving wife of forty seven years, he is survived by his sons Kevin Unrau of Taber; Wayne (Anita) Unrau of Taber and their children Damian, Ryder and Ashley. He is also survived by his younger twin brother Ron (Mary Ann) Unrau of Taber; older twin brothers Bill (Edith) Unrau of Skiff and Allan Unrau of Calgary; mother-in-law Catherine Scullen of Lethbridge; sister-in-law Sandra Schatz of Lethbridge; brother-in-law Bill (Connie) Scullen of Saskatchewan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Helen (nee Lepp) Unrau; sister Margaret in infancy; father-in-law William Scullen and brother-in-law Brian Schatz.

Don was born in Coaldale on November 29, 1945 to John and Helen Unrau and raised on the family farm in Skiff. After his schooling in Skiff and Foremost he attended SAIT in Calgary and studied Agriculture Mechanics. He married Shelly Scullen on November 28, 1970. While raising a family and farming he was active in the Skiff Water Co-op, South Waste Management and Planning Commission. In 2008, Don and Shelly made the decision to venture into irrigation farming with Kevin and Wayne, in Taber.

Don's role changed but he continued to play a huge part in diversifying the farm, he was so proud of those small potatoes and never missed an opportunity to share his pride with family and friends.

Don loved ice fishing, playing cards, having coffee at the Skiff elevator, building and designing with Kevin and keeping his pocket book up to date. He was a hard worker, had a sense of humour and cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Don's name may be made directly to the Sarcoma Cancer Foundation of Canada, 2 St. Clair Avenue West, 18 Floor, Toronto, Ontario M4V 1L5 www.sarcomacancer.ca.
