Ethel was born in Hungary on September 13, 1927, the youngest of three children. She immigrated with her family to Canada, arriving in Halifax at Pier 21 in June of 1935. The family moved from Montreal to Taber where she attended school. In 1949, she married Gordon Gammon who worked for Canadian Pacific Railway. They had one son, Robert.
Ethel was a wonderful seamstress but her passion was women’s retail, including Vickeries General Store, Eaton’s, Draffin’s Drug Store, the Sally Shop and Mary Robison‘s. She was the manager of the Sally Shop for more than twenty years.
Over the decades, Ethel was a volunteer to many community organizations including the Red Cross and the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. She was also a fifty year member of both the Royal Canadian Legion and the Lethbridge Symphony Women’s League, where she made many of her lifetime friends.
Much appreciation for Dr. Owen Ukrainetz, Dr. Morley Wong, the dedicated staff at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, hemodialysis unit and the nursing team at St. Michael’s Care Centre, palliative unit.
