1934 - 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Nicholas Sowinski “The Bear”, beloved husband of Jean Sowinski, announce his passing in Taber on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the age of 84, surrounded by his family.

Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 7:00 P.M.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Besides Jean, his loving wife of fifty nine years, he is survived by their children Shirley (Ed) Derksen of Taber and their family Wesley Derksen, Jordan Derksen, Lindsay Derksen and Ryan Derksen; William (Annette) Sowinski of Springbrook and their family Dustin (Gerri) Sowinski, Mathew (Jennica) Collett, Zachary Sowinski (Caitlin Cowan); Lisa Sowinski of Taber and her family Travis Astalos, Morgan Astalos and their father Leonard Astalos. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter Linda Sowinski in December 2000.

Harry was born December 12, 1934 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. His family settled in Taber when he was seven. He was the youngest child born to Michael and Annie Sowinski and was the last surviving family member. He met the love of his life, Jean Daniels, at the Rex café in the spring of 1959 and their love was united in marriage on November 28, 1959.
