She was predeceased by her husband Steve Zalik, son John Zalik, parents Martin Sr. and Anna Straub, brother Martin Straub, sister Elisabeth Bosnjak, sister-in-law Maria Straub and brother-in-law Joseph Bosnjak.
Anna was born May 30, 1928 in Budakeszi, Hungary. She was the oldest child born to Martin Sr. and Anna Straub. In 1946, after the war, Anna was relocated with her family to Germany. They resided in Germany until 1953 when they immigrated to Canada, settling in Picture Butte as beet workers. Soon after, she met her husband Steve Zalik and together they raised their two children, Sylvia and John.
Anna worked hard her whole life. She was a good cook and an exceptional baker. Anna loved to grow a garden and preserve fruit brought from Creston to feed the family. Her baked bread, apple pies and chiffon cakes were out of this world.
Anna was a long time parishioner of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for fifty five years and sang in the senior choir. Over the years, she would often prepare special meals for the priests and cook up great vats of mashed potatoes for the church chicken suppers.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Anna’s name may be made directly to the Resident and Family Council, 2100 - 11 Street, Coaldale, Alberta T1M 1L2.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Coaldale Health Centre for their wonderful care, support and compassion.
