Arthur Ell

1932 - 2021

Arthur Andrew Ell, beloved husband of Arlene Ell, passed away in Taber on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the age of 89 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 7:00 P.M.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Assumption Cemetery, Grassy Lake.

Arthur's first breath was on July 25, 1932 on the Grassy Lake family farm.  A baby boy for Frank and Irene and a little brother for Allan. They all wished him a happy and long life.

He always said the best part of school was racing Old Pete, the farm horse, who pulled the wagon him and Allan took to school each day. Arthur's dad never complained how many times they broke the wagon wheels, he just kept fixing them for his boys.

Ready for the next step in his life, on Christmas Eve 1956, after Midnight Mass, Arthur opened up the cubby hole, pulled out a diamond and proposed to Arlene Erickson. Wedding bells rang on October 19, 1957 and they were married for sixty four years.

Now a husband, ready to be a father and along came the children Daniel Arthur, Gerald Francis, Cindy (Sid) Marie and Randy Albert. He led by example and taught his children to be honest, to work and play hard and to take care of one another. He was a giving man, quietly generous. A son-in-law Mario Bernhardt and daughter in law Heather (Moriarty) made his family complete.

After family, farming was Arthur's other love. He was proud to have farmed with his dad and then his son. Winters were spent tinkering, building and fixing and getting ready for the next season. One of his mottos was “I can build that” and he would!

Arthur and Arlene enjoyed many years and put on many miles exploring campgrounds and lakes with their camper and boat. He operated that boat like a farmer - up and down the lake - no skips - looking for that elusive big fish.

Arthur's last breath was on September 8, 2021 as an 89 year old man who had a happy and long life. He has joined his family including his mother and father Frank and Irene, brother Allan, son Gerry, in-laws Albert and Mildred Erickson and many family members and friends. Our hearts are broken trying to figure out how to live without him and so grateful we got to live with him.

Providing for his family was very important to Arthur and if friends so desire, memorial tributes in Arthur’s name may be made directly to the Taber Food Bank Society, 5512 - 48 Avenue, Taber, Alberta, T1G 1S4 or a charity of one's choice.
