Doug Hazell

1952 - 2023

It is with deep sorrow, heavy hearts and love that we announce the passing of Douglas Bryan Hazell, beloved husband of Mary Hazell. Doug passed away peacefully in Taber on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the age of 70 years.

The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 1:00 P.M.

The Burial Service was held at the Prairieview Cemetery, Grassy Lake on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 4:00 P.M.

Besides his loving wife Mary, Doug is also survived by his daughter Alvena Turnbull of Taber; brother Dennis (Irene) Hazell and their children Cameron (Carly) and Kira (Kyle); sister Cheryl (Leslie) Hazell-Racz and their children Amber (Robyn), Graham and Troy; sister Gloria (George) Coutts and their children Jennifer (Tyler) and Jeff. He is also survived by his cousin and friend Patricia Ley; extended family Tracey Stewart and her children, Michael Stewart and his children.

Doug was welcomed into this world in Taber on May 22, 1952, the second child of four born to Curtis and Arliene Hazell. Throughout his life, Doug had a love for motorbikes. As he progressed to his later years, you could often see him motoring down the highway with his scooter, always with a big wave and a healthy smile. On December 30, 2011 Doug married his best friend and soulmate Mary Vermillion. Together they lived in Grassy Lake in a house filled with love and laughter with their pets Boo Boo, Maggie, Prince and Bentley.

Doug made an impact on those he met in his life with kindness and his great sense of humour. He accepted other’s unconditionally and had a social openness, an ability to chat with almost anyone he encountered. Doug was always ready with a compliment or a quick one liner, which was sure to offer a good belly laugh. He was a true gentleman and the world was a better place with him in it. Doug will be greatly missed.
