Doris Higgins

1933 - 2023

Doris Roberta Higgins (née Saunders), beloved wife of the late Lloyd Higgins, passed away peacefully at the Charles Lemoyne Hospital, Greenfield Park, Quebec on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the age of 89 years. 

A private burial service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family for a reception in the lower hall at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 between 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M.

Doris is survived by her sister Dianne (Russell), brother Robert and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Lloyd; parents Alice (née Laviolette) and Robert H. Saunders; sisters Bette, Joan and by her brother LeRoy.

Doris was born on September 10, 1933 in East Florenceville, New Brunswick. She was a proud graduate of the Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing. Doris served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for five years as a Nursing Sister (Captain).

Doris was a long term resident of Taber. She was employed in home care with the Taber Health Unit for fifteen years before retiring with forty one years of service in the nursing profession.

Doris was a dedicated volunteer to the community. She was involved in the Horticulture Club, Hospital Auxillary, Alberta Association of Registered Nurses, Knox United Church, Retlaw Historical Society, Taber Museum and the Retired RN Club. She was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005 in recognition of outstanding service to the people and Province of Alberta.
