Richard was born May 27, 1943 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan to the late Doug and Jesse Owen. He is the oldest sibling to Dorothy, Judy, Gail and Les. After school he worked at the Burmis Sawmill as well as digging pipelines. He then started farming and ranching in 1965. Richard married the love of his life Twink on November 4, 1967. He started operating oil wells in 1975 before starting his own trucking company Owen Oil Services in 1987. In 1997 the farm diversified into raising Elk. Besides his passions for farming, ranching, being a grandpa and great grandpa, he loved fishing, hunting, camping, quading and working on his old vehicles.

Richard had a kind heart and gentle soul. He was always willing to lend someone a helping hand and thought everyone deserved a chance.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Richard’s name may be made directly to the Jack Ady Cancer Centre, 960 – 19 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 1W5.

The family would like to thank the staff at both the Chinook Regional Hospital and Taber Hospital for their care and compassion. It was greatly appreciated.
