John DeBona

1943 - 2024

John Richard DeBona, passed away peacefully in Taber on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the age of 81 years.

John will be privately remembered by his family.

John is survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; daughter Debi (Blake) Fletcher and their children Travis (Jade) and their children Sadie and Wynn, Paige (Brent) Nilsson; daughter Tracey Howells and her children Colton (Kyla) and Kassidy; daughter Rhonda DeBona; daughter Denise (Paw) Pedersen and their children Jazlyn (Jonny), Jett (Kayla) and Wyatt; son Danny (Lindsay) and their son Dax; daughter-in-law Lisa DeBona and their children Taia (Orion) and Vinnie. Also mourning John is his companion Gurli Journoud and her family. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Rachwalski and Katie (Ken) Christensen; sisters-in-law Marlene and Cheryl DeBona; brothers-in-law Harold Edwards and Andy (Judy) Astalos.

John was predeceased by his wife of forty three years Margaret; parents Emma and Ralph Sr. DeBona; in-laws Elsie and Andy Sr. Astalos; brothers Ralph and Rudy DeBona; brother-in-law Bill Rachwalski, sister-in-law Irene Edwards, and son-in-law’s Malcolm Howells and Derrik French.

John was born to Emma and Ralph Sr. DeBona on June 21, 1943. He married his childhood sweetheart Margaret on September 18, 1963. John and Margaret homesteaded on a farm east of Taber where they raised their five children. He had a love for farming and livestock. He coached junior hockey and baseball for many years. John and Margaret enjoyed going to Hawaii for vacation. He was a self taught musician who enjoyed playing the drums and guitar for multiple bands throughout the years. John had a soft spot for all animals.
