THELMA HAMMERGREN

1930 - 1998

Thelma Rose Hammergren, beloved wife of Roy Hammergren of Taber, passed away in Lethbridge on Saturday, February 28, 1998 at the age of 67 years.
Thelma was born to Trygve & Hansine Orsten on April 1, 1930 in Big Valley, Alberta. She was raised in the Rumsey area and later in 1948 along with her family moved to Scandia. There she met and later married Roy Hammergren on May 14, 1950. Roy and Thelma resided in several areas before moving and settling down in Hays in 1958 where they had farmed for a number of years. While in Hays, Thelma spent much of her time with the UCW, the community hall, curling and watching and supporting her children playing baseball, hockey and being involved with 4-H. While in Hays she joined the Vauxhall Tops Club. In June of 1989 they retired to Taber where she still remained very active in the Tops Club and other various groups. She enjoyed shopping for her grandchildren with her daughters and sisters and spending time with them. Thelma was also very creative making different arts and crafts and crocheting. She loved to have her morning coffee and was adamant that she receive no phone calls after 9:00 A.M. because that was her time to go to the “Chicken House” with her friends. She will be sadly missed by her coffee friends, and most of all by her husband and family.
Besides her loving husband Roy, Thelma is survived by her children Wayne Hammergren of Scandia; Eunice (Lloyd) Szigli of Taber and their children Shane, Angela and Kyle; Rodney Hammergren of Hays and Shauneen (Syl) Carlin of Taber and their children Cory and Kimberly. She is also survived by her brother and sisters Shirley (Paul) Novak of Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan; Helen Borchers of Edmonton; Toby (Esther) Orsten of Kelowna; Norma (Elgin) Grant of Ponoka as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son Terry Hammergren and a sister Betty Orsten.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, March 3, 1998 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Wednesday, March 4, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Bruce Sheasby of Parkview United Church officiating. Interment followed in the Vauxhall Cemetery.
