Jason Melquist

1969 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jason Wade Melquist announce the passing of their patriarch, who passed away in Taber on Friday, May 9, 2025 at the age of 55 years following a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Besides Bonnie, his loving wife of thirty two years, Jason is survived by their two sons Jesse Bulman of Taber and his daughter Sierra and Kolyn (Lakyn) Melquist of Albany, Georgia and their daughter Arya. He was big brother to Christine Melquist (Nathan) and Aaron (Andrea) Melquist and was an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother Bonnie Helmer and his father Carl Melquist.

Jason was born in Claresholm on June 5, 1969. He dabbled in pipeline work for a while, but was a truck driver most of his life, spending many years with Taber Transport and was currently employed with Chinook Carriers.

Jason loved his sons but above all he was a proud papa. Sierra was his world and they were joined at the hip, two peas in a pod. She always defended him! When Arya came along, he couldn’t wait to start making new memories with her and loved their FaceTime chats.

He loved all things sci-fi, was a proud Trekkie and Whovian. Jason never got tired of movies and had amassed a collection of thousands. He enjoyed Lego and could often be heard in the wee hours of the morning digging through his bucket to create something new.

He was very proud of his Viking heritage and would say “There’s a little Norwegian in everyone”. He knew he would face Odin at the gates of Valhalla and was truly prepared. He left this world fighting like a warrior.

A private Viking sendoff will be held by Jason’s family and a committal service will be held at the Claresholm Cemetery. An announcement will be made once plans for a public service are made.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Jason’s name may be made directly to the Taber and District Health Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9 www.tdhf.ca.
