Maxine Whalen
1950 - 2026
Maxine Louise Whalen (née Santoni), beloved wife of Pat Whalen, passed away peacefully in Taber, surrounded by all her family, on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at the age of 75 years following a short but very courageous battle with cancer.
Besides Pat, her loving husband of fifty three years, Maxine is survived by their daughters Tammy (Monty) Baynham and Shawna (Tyler) Utke all of Taber; her four amazing grandchildren Jordan (Garritt) vanVoorst, Hunter (Tracey) Utke, Carter Utke (Rylee Peterson) and Mackenzie Baynham. She is also survived by her sister Laura Stolk and brother Keith Santoni; sisters-in-law Maureen Lohmann, brothers-in-law Jake Stolk, Glenn Andrus, Mike (Yvette) Whalen and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Joe Santoni; her brother Gerry Santoni; in-laws Kathy Andrus, Theresa (Don) MacDonald, Carol Johnson, Tom (Debbie) Whalen and Elmer Lohmann.
Maxine was born in Taber on October 10, 1950 to Dorothy and Joe Santoni. She graduated from W.R. Myers in 1968. She met Pat Whalen, the love of her life and they were married May 6, 1972. They remained in Taber, in the same home where they raised their family, for the fifty three years they were married.
Maxine was the most amazing, kind and loving mother, wife and grandma and is loved beyond words. She will leave a void in her family’s lives that cannot be replaced. “We love you, mom”
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber, on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber, on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
