Andy Wilk

1932 - 2026

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Andrew Wilk share the news of his departure from this world on Monday, January 5, 2026 at the age of 93 years.

Left to mourn this incredible loss is his brother Ken (Sine) Wilk of Courtney, British Columbia; sister Jean (Dale) Merriman of Lethbridge and sister-in-law Carole Wilk of Taber; nephews Ron (Bev) Wilk, Richard Wilk, Roger (Julie) Wilk, Reginald (Tracey) Wilk, Brian (Suzanne) Merriman, Brent (Jodi) Merriman, Blair (Corrinna) Wilk and Gerald Wilk; nieces Theresa (Larch) Haigh, Glenna (Art) Samuels, Bev (Jeff) Dutton, Wendy (Chris) Parry and Dawna (Bruce) Merriman; very special niece who was like a daughter to him Bonnie (Terry) Marose and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Wilk; brothers John, Frank (Gwen), Bill and Harry; sister Rose Marie and niece Kimberly.

Andy was born on the family farm near Fox Valley, Saskatchewan on September 19, 1932. He started his schooling at Bowden School. The family then moved to Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan, where he attended Salamis School. He along with his brothers John and Frank, had the job of arriving early, gathering firewood and lighting the wood stove so the school would be warm when the other students arrived.

In 1945, the family moved to Taber. Andy didn’t like it in Taber and decided to ride his bike back to Fox Valley where his grandmother Zacaruk lived. He made it as far as Bow Island until it started to get dark and quickly made his way back to Taber. Andy made Taber his home for the next eighty one years.

Andy worked various jobs, when he was just fourteen years old, he got a bush job in Kitimat, British Columbia with his uncle Walter. He later moved on to be owner/operator of his own gravel truck, worked in the oil patch, and lastly drove gravel truck with the County of Warner until his retirement. No matter where his job took him, he always returned to Taber.

Andy and his brother Bill were inseparable, where there was one the other was not far behind! Together, they enjoyed many fishing trips, coffee meetings, casino excursions, an Alaskan cruise and all family events. Andy loved his family unconditionally as we did him. He gave selflessly without ever expecting anything in return. Andy leaves behind a tapestry of beautiful memories and stories that will continue to inspire. He will forever be known for his incredible work ethic, integrity, honesty, sense of humor and generosity.

The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Special thanks to all the staff at Linden View and Clearview Lodge for their incredible and compassionate care.
