Erling Odland

1927 - 2026

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Erling Odland in Taber on Monday, May 18, 2026 at the age of 98 years.

Erling is survived by his children Doug (Cathy) Odland of Vauxhall, Rosalie (Tony) Schiiler of Salmon Arm and Glenn (Deanne) Odland of Lethbridge; grandchildren Kaley Odland, Jesse Odland, Brooke (Bobby) Scott, Zachary (Robyn Grasdal) Odland, Bobbi (Kody) Clarke, Erik Schiiler and Nelson Schiiler; great grandchildren Wyatt, Weston, Wren, Adley and Ember Odland, Lizzy and Rhylee Scott, Zoey and Bradie Odland, Noah, Xaija and Phoenix Grasdal, and Scarlett Clarke. He is also survived by his sister Pauline Claeys of Lethbridge; sister-in-law Joyce Odland of Lethbridge; brother-in-law Gil Pakarno of Hays; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Beverly Sivertson of Lethbridge as well as many numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen Odland (m.1954 d. 2014); parents Erik and Abigail Odland; siblings Johanna (Mag) Severtson, Sam (Shirley) Odland, Christie (Lloyd) Hagen, Pete Odland, Alfred (Faye) Odland, Arlene (Bill) Tolley and half sister Malena Maland; in-laws David and Joan Snaith and Marlene Pakarno.

Erling Odland was born September 18, 1927 on the Grastein Farm in Varhaug, Norway. He immigrated to Canada with his mother and siblings Johanna, Christie, Sam and Peter to the Sundial Farm where the family was reunited with Erik.

Erling worked hard in his teens until he purchased his first farm in 1947 at the age of twenty. He continued to invest in his land and farm, deciding that irrigation was not for him and then moved to the dryland farm that we all knew as the Erling and Helen Odland family farm.

When Helen passed in 2014, Erling only stayed on the farm for five more years and then decided to move to small home in Taber. When Covid hit in 2020 and family stopped visiting due to the virus, he decided to move to Clearview Lodge to be with more of his friends. As aging and hearing loss caught up with him he needed more assistance and then moved into Linden View where he stayed until this past week. He lived a full life and loved everyone.

The Funeral Service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. Burial followed at the Enchant Cemetery.
