Gord Layton

1949 - 2026

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gordon Harding Layton announce his peaceful passing in Lethbridge, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the age of 77 years.

Besides his loving wife Gita, Gord is survived by their children Trevor (Denise) Layton of Coaldale and Tracy (Randy) Ross of Whitecourt and by his grandchildren Paige, Tristan, Callum, Cole, Sydney, Hudson and Camryn. He is also survived by his siblings Gerald (Gail) Layton, Myron (Judy) Layton, Barbara Wright and Betty Bird; brothers-in-law Rodney Zaugg and Hugo (Goldy) Fiedler; sisters-in-law Darlene Layton, Diane Layton, Judy Fiedler and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Calvin and Iola (née Harding) Layton, his in-laws Andreas and Natalie Fiedler, his brothers Richard Layton, Leo Layton and sister Carolyn Zaugg and brothers-in-law Karl Wright, Ray Bird and Ed Fiedler.

Gord was born in Taber on March 16, 1949, to Calvin and Iola Layton. He completed his schooling at W.R. Myers High School and went on to work for the MD of Taber, followed by a career as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Alberta Government.

Gord spent his free time camping, travelling, golfing, fishing or woodworking in his garage. You could find him happily sitting, diet Coke in hand, at ‘the Lake’, or their second home of fourteen years in Yuma, Arizona.

Gord was known for his quick wit and sometimes “unbelievable” stories, but you were sure to walk away from a conversation chuckling or smiling.

His heart was big and he loved his wife, children and grandchildren fiercely.

A service in celebration of Gord’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 5205 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 2:00 P.M.
