JEANNE WESTWOOD
1920 - 2009
Jeanne Kathlene Westwood, beloved wife of the late Richard Westwood, passed away in Taber on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the age of 89 years.
Jeanne will be remembered by those especially close to her, Saranell & Arnold Siemens of Taber, Marcy & Dale Hufnagel of Edmonton, Marie & Dwight Woody of Coronation as well as numerous other friends and caregivers in the Taber community.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard Westwood and also by her parents, Isaac & Vera Taylor.
Jeanne was born February 7, 1920 in Marion township, Daviess County, Missouri, the only child to Isaac & Vera Taylor. Being that her father was a Methodist preacher, they resided in numerous communities throughout her early years.
She attended Northwest Missouri State College and later moved to Washington DC where she worked for the National Labour Relations Board. In 1950 Jeanne left for Japan where she taught American History and English before returning to Canada in 1953. In 1954 she married Richard Westwood. Eventually they moved to Alberta where Jeanne taught Business Education and was a Guidance Counselor at W.R. Myers High School in Taber. She and Richard had no children of their own but she often commented that her students were her children. Jeanne retired on her sixty fifth birthday and spend time travelling with Richard to southeast Asia, Hawaii and across Canada before his passing in 1988.
Travelling was the highlight of her life - to destinations that included Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, Mongolia, Russia, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Kenya on an African Safari, just to name a few.
Visitation will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church, 5431 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ron Gartly officiating. A Burial Service will be held at the Taber Memorial Garden at a later time.
