RUDY GREGUS

1938 - 2001

Rudy Gregus passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the age of 62 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of forty two years, Dorothy, his children Peter (Joan) of Calgary, Michael (Marlene) and their girls, Kristyn and Jenna of Taber, Lorie (Cam) Leth and their children, Dalanee and Granger of Taber, Ron (Nicole) of Taber and Julie (Clint Wakefield) of Calgary. Rudy is also survived by his family, his mother, Mary Gregus; his brothers, John (Irene), Paul (Linda); sister Anne (Alex) Astalos; his wife Dorothy’s family, Tony (Wilma) Baumstark and Henry (Pat) Baumstark and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Gregus and his father and mother-in-law, Jacob and Veronika Baumstark.
Rudy was born in Taber on May 20, 1938, raised on the farm and devoted his life to the land. He and Dorothy were married young and raised five children. Many happy hours were spent in the hockey rinks, camping, fishing and bowling in the “off season”. Dorothy and Rudy loved to travel and relax in the warm sun at the ocean. Special times with his grandchildren were always treasured.
Farming was his life and this was reflected by achieving the “High Tonnage Award” for his beets many times.
Rudy especially enjoyed serving on the boards of the Sugar Beet Growers Association, the Taber Irrigation District and Alberta Vegetable Growers.
He was a devout Catholic, very strong in his faith, and this brought great comfort to him during his courageous battle with his illness. Rudy will always be remembered by his friends and family for his sense of humour and giving ways.
He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed the fraternal comradeship of his fellow Knights. Rudy also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Elks and the Taber Legion.
Relatives and friends were invited for Prayers at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at 7:30 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Jim de los Angeles Celebrant. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
