WATSON BODIE

1913 - 2001

Watson Bodie, beloved husband of the late Verna Bodie, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2001 at the age of 87 years.
Watson was the third son of Jim and Margaret Bodie and was born December 25, 1913 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He grew up in Calgary and on June 19, 1934 he married Verna Westaway. They had 66 wonderful years together until Verna’s passing in March 2000.
He served overseas during World War II with the Loyal Eddies, the Kingston Group in Italy and the Regina Rifles in the Netherlands. As a GI, he was stationed in Holland for a year after the war as part of the Army of Occupation.
Watson and Verna moved to Taber in 1947 to open Bodie Bros. Clothing store with his brother Marr. He became an important part of the Taber community. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and a member and past president of the Taber Kiwanis Club. Watson was the first chairman of the newly organized Police Commission, and served as an appointee on the Welfare Board of Southern Alberta and was also an elder in the Knox United Church of Taber.
After he retired from the clothing store, he would travel to various communities for Superior Motors to pick up cars that would be sold in Taber.
Watson will be forever remembered in the hearts of his son Ron (Anne) Bodie of Calgary, daughter Judy (Richard) Berube of Calgary; grandchildren Daryl, Pam and Kent (JoAnn); great grandchildren Kayla, Colby, Kyle and Taylor; two brothers Fred of Red Deer and Norman (Joan) of Whiterock, B.C. and also by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his wife Verna, three brothers William, Frank and Marr and grandson Scott Collum.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, November 1, 2001 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, November 2, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Jim Lochhead officiating. Burial followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
