1915 - 2001

Lorrene Biem, beloved wife of the late Joy C. Biem, passed away peacefully in Taber on Thursday, December 20, 2001 at the age of 86 years.
Lorrene was born at Swift Current, Saskatchewan on March 17, 1915. She was raised in Swift Current where she also received her schooling. Lorrene met and later married Joy Biem in March of 1940. Lorrene had many talents which included painting pictures and creative writing, which some of her work was published. She was also musically inclined and in her younger years she, along with her dad, played in the Salvation Army band. Lorrene had an open mind and was always eager to learn. At the age of seventy two she successfully completed her last academic course. Those who were fortunate to know Lorrene will remember her for her involvement in the church and community. She will be fondly remembered for her quick wit and great sense of humor. Often when those around her would be laughing, Lorrene was usually the one who was making them laugh and feel good about life. The memories that she has left behind will be cherished in the hearts of all who loved her... friends, family and the wonderful people who took care of her at the Continuing Care Facility.
Lorrene will be sadly missed by two daughters, LaVane Cowie of Taber and Phyllis (Vern) Smathers of Taber; a son, Calvin (Linda) Biem of Tsawwassen, British Columbia; nine grandchildren and great grandchildren, Barry (Brenda) Cowie of Red Deer and their children Vanessa, Denay, Kimberly and Nichole; Kelly (Paul) Elser of Lethbridge and their children Ryley and Alexa; Kevin Cowie of Calgary; Carole Cowie of Calgary; Darrin (Yvonne) Smathers of Taber and their children Alana, Larrisa, Jessica and Taryn; Jenny Biem (Ray) and daughter Skyray, of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia; Joy Smathers of Calgary; Cary Biem (Stu) of Australia and Brenda (Kirk) Leifso of Victoria, British Columbia; two sisters, Polly Hebert of Vernon, B.C. and Helen Henderson of Chilliwack, British Columbia as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
