BOB PHILLIPS

1930 - 2000

Robert “Bob” Judde Phillips, beloved husband of Betty Phillips of Barnwell, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Monday, December 25, 2000 at the age of 70 years.
Bob was born to Thomas and Eleanor (O’Sullivan) Phillips on November 12, 1930 near Shaughnessy, Alberta. He and his brother Doug were raised by their grandmother Maude Farra after the passing of their mother in 1933. Bob received his schooling in Shaughnessy and then went to work as a young boy at the mine until 1963. During that time he met and married Elizabeth Koch on November 28, 1959. In May of 1963 he moved his family to Taber where he resided until December of 1994. He and Betty then moved to Barnwell to be closer to his son and grandchildren, and lived there until his passing. Bob worked at the Royal Hotel, Town of Taber, drove truck for W. Frey Trucking on the rigs and then became self employed, owning and operating R. Water Hauling until his retirement in 1998. For the past three seasons he had driven beet truck for Valco Farms. Bobs whole life revolved around hockey and baseball where he played, coached and watched his son and daughter and grandchildren participate in the sports he loved. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends. He had a very close relationship with his whole family and extended family, and everyone including family and friends knew they were always welcome in his home.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Betty; his daughter Yvonne (Barry) of Vulcan; his son Brian “Flip” (Cam) of Barnwell; five grandchildren, Dustin, Aisha, Jolene, Ashton and Bryndin; two sisters, Elaine (Howard) High of Calgary and Carol Moody of Ontario; a brother Gordi (Bonnie) Phillips of Victoria, British Columbia; two sisters-in-law Shirley Phillips of Victoria, British Columbia and Leona Phillips of Calgary; a nephew Tommy (Patti) Phillips of Picture Butte. Bob is also survived by Betty’s family, a sister, Shirley (Joe) Perin of Drayton Valley; two brothers, Rudy (Terry) Koch of Calgary and Edwin Koch of Calgary and one sister-n-law Mary Koch of Calgary as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Bob was predeceased by his mother in 1933; a grandson Christopher Souther in 1977; his grandmother Farra in 1977; his father in 1979; his brother Doug Phillips in 1999 and his step-mother Beth Martin in December of this year.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell Chapel on Saturday, December 30, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Marty Johnson conducting. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
