Bernie Warkentin

1942 - 2021

Bernhard Warkentin, beloved husband of Shelley Warkentin, passed away in Taber on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the age of 79 years.

As a result of the restrictions regarding COVID-19 and the government recommendations, a private funeral service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.

Bernie and Shelley would have celebrated their twenty second wedding anniversary on Saturday, October 2. Besides his wife Shelley, Bernie is survived by his children Bonita Warkentin of Calgary, Terry Warkentin of Lethbridge and Amber Warkentin of Taber. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother Susan Jansen, her husband Peter Jansen and sister Annie Penner.

Bernie was born in the Ukraine on March 3, 1942. He developed tuberculosis as a young child and had to stay one year in hospital in Germany. Bernie immigrated to Canada with his mother and sister in 1949. He eventually moved to Taber in 1967 and worked many jobs as a steam engineer. Bernie also worked sixteen years with Superior Propane. He worked for the Animal Disease Research Institute in Lethbridge before retiring, and settled on his acreage near the lake where he loved to be.

Bernie was a devout Christian, and never a day went by that he didn't study God's word.

He had a witty sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
