MABEL MURPHY

1912 - 2006

Mrs. Mabel Ethel Howells Murphy (nee: Anderson) passed away peacefully in Taber Continuing Care on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the age of 93 years.
Mabel was born in Barnwell on October 3, 1912, the youngest of six children.  She married Glyn Howells on October 20, 1938.  After Glyn's death in 1961 Mabel took a nursing course in Calgary and later worked at the Lethbridge Regional and Taber Hospitals, retiring in 1977.  Mabel married Bill Murphy on April 26, 1975 and after his death in 1996 she lived at the Barnwell Seniors Complex.  Her health began to deteriorate after several strokes so she moved to Clearview Lodge in Taber and in December of 2003 moved to Taber Continuing Care.
Mabel was a beautiful woman who had such a green thumb when it came to gardening. Her many strolls or drives always ended up at one of her grandchildren's houses, bearing gifts of delicious baking from her recipe collection, or fresh fruit and vegetables from her garden. Through the years, Mabel was always delighted to have visits from little members of the family. She was an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother. Mabel will be in our hearts forever.
She was predeceased by husbands Glyn Howells in 1961 and Bill Murphy in 1996; daughter Rena Ann; son John Lynn; sisters Myrtle, Sybil and Viola Anderson and brothers Sylvan and Irvin Anderson.
Mabel's life is treasured by her loving family; son Robert (Sharon) Howells of Barnwell and daughter Verna Jean Howells of Grande Prairie; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren Rhonda (Bob) Wagner of Taber and their children Jared and Kayley; Darren (Melanee) Howells of Barnwell and their children Dustin (April) of Barnwell and Tanya of Lethbridge; Malcolm (Tracey) Howells of Barnwell and their children Colton and Kassidy; Michelle (Jack) Weinkauf of Taber and their children Alyssa and Kayden; Aric Wollschlager of Grande Prairie; Amy Wollschlager (Willie) of Grande Prairie and son Kayden; Adam Wollschlager of Grande Prairie; son-in-law Jurgen Wollschlager; and Todd (Cathy) Debona of Taber and their children Jessie, Darian and Tiffany.
Mabel's family would like to thank Dr. Beckie, Clearview Lodge and Taber Continuing Care staff for the wonderful care given to her during her stay.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Eric Jensen conducting. Friends may meet with the family in the Relief Society Room at the church prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. Interment to follow in the Barnwell Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Mabel's name may be made directly to the Taber Hospital Foundation, Continuing Care, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta  T1G 1N9.
