Ray Sheen
1935 - 2026
Raymond Hardin Sheen, beloved husband of Christine Sheen, passed away in Taber on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at the age of 90 years.
Ray was born in Cardston on August 14, 1935, a twin and the second of six children born to Grant and Helena Sheen. He loved growing up on the prairies and often described his idyllic youth as “Tom Sawyer Days.” Rural life instilled in him the value of hard work and deepened his love for the earth and for all of God’s creations.
In 1960, Ray married his eternal sweetheart, Christine Perry and together they built a life defined by faith, service and devotion. Their home was filled with children, music, laughter and love. For Ray, there was truly no place like home. Their children, David Sheen, Diane (Andrew) Llewelyn-Jones, Kevin (Jocelyne) Sheen, Karen (Grant) Schultz, Janelle (Jamie) Orr, Jay (Sara) Sheen and Colin (Amanda) Sheen along with twenty nine grandchildren and thirty seven great grandchildren, are a testament to that love.
Ray attended the University of Alberta, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later received a Master of Education in Counselling from Brigham Young University. He was a gifted schoolteacher, counsellor and coach. A man who could see potential in a child long before the child saw it in themselves.
Ray’s warmth, kindness, optimism and ready helping hands reflected his deep love for the Saviour and his sincere desire to emulate Him. As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ray fulfilled many church assignments and leadership roles. As a young man, he served a mission in Norway and later, with Christine by his side, served four additional missions to Saskatchewan, Nigeria, Salt Lake City and Sweden.
Ray was actively involved in the community through sports, the arts, municipal affairs, Scouts Canada and The Vegetable Garden.
Like Ray’s well-tended gardens at the end of a season, he rests. His life full and beautiful, his harvest abundant.
