Don Ackrill

1948 - 2026

 Donald Henry Ackrill, beloved husband of Margaret Ackrill, passed away peacefully with family at his side, in Taber on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the age of 77 years.

Besides Margaret, his loving wife of fifty one years, he is survived by their children Greg Ackrill of Lethbridge and Andrea Kast (Ian Buckler) of Taber. To his grandchildren, he was fondly referred to as papa - Brittany, (Shaun Fletcher), Zander, Jazlin and Zayla, Shaun Ackrill, Tyler Ackrill, Braiden Ackrill, Donovan Kast, Declan Kast and Chryslyn Kast. He will also be fondly remembered by his close friends, Jim Saxon and Darrell Kast.

Don was the middle of five children born to Henry and Elizabeth (née Hurren) Ackrill, including David, Doreen, Denise and Deborah. Don came to Alberta in 1974 for work, where he met and married Margaret, the love of his life. In 1980, they moved to Vauxhall where he started his career with the Bow River Irrigation District where he remained until his retirement in 2015.

Don was a devoted father and would do anything to make his family happy. Besides work and family, Don loved to camp, especially in the mountains, where there was usually a trout and a campfire pie involved.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
